Advancing gender perspectives in the judicial process (28 February 2026)

Following the establishment of the Working Group on Promoting Gender Justice in the Judicial Process
(November 2025) by the Court of Justice of Thailand, ongoing efforts are being advanced to strengthen the integration of gender perspectives within judicial systems. This Working Group, composed of judges of the Court of Justice, serves as an internal judicial mechanism to advance knowledge, address gender bias in judicial decision-making, and promote more equitable access to justice. On 28 February 2026, SHero Thailand supported a technical session with members of this Working Group, contributing to discussions on gender-based violence, gender bias, and the application of gender perspectives in judicial processes.

Purpose of the Dialogue: The meeting aimed to strengthen understanding of gender perspectives in order to support the development of justice processes that are free from discrimination and grounded in respect for human dignity. It also sought to explore approaches for advancing policies and action plans on gender justice in line with international standards. Participants included members of the Judiciary Working Group on Promoting Gender Justice in the Justice Process and its supporting sub-working groups.

Recognising Bias and the Impact of Violence: Participants reflected on the psychological, social, and behavioural impacts of violence, particularly in cases of intimate partner violence and sexual violence. The discussion also addressed how gender stereotypes, unconscious bias, and structural inequalities may influence justice processes and decision-making. Through facilitated discussion, SHero helped connect these perspectives with practical challenges encountered in justice processes.

Towards Strengthening Gender-Sensitive Justice: The dialogue concluded with reflections on how gender perspectives can be further integrated within justice institutions in Thailand. Participants discussed possible short- and long-term measures to address structural barriers and strengthen gender-sensitive approaches in justice processes. Collaboration between justice institutions and civil society organisations remains essential in advancing these efforts. SHero Thailand will continue contributing its legal expertise and field experience to support ongoing dialogue and development in this area.

In parallel, the SHero Thailand team is currently participating in the Seventieth Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, where they are engaging with judges and justice actors from diverse jurisdictions to exchange knowledge and identify practical tools that can be further adapted and applied within the Thai context.
