UNBOUND Project

What would justice look like if it were shaped by survivors?

Official statistics capture only a fraction of the reality of domestic and intimate partner violence. Behind those numbers are experiences that remain unseen, particularly those of migrant women, refugees, stateless people and people without documentation, who face multiple barriers when seeking safety and justice. This is where UNBOUND: Embedding Survivor Voices in Law and Practice to Advance Survivor-Centred Justice begins.

UNBOUND is SHero Thailand’s three-year initiative to strengthen the place of survivors’ lived experiences in law and justice practice. In Phase I, we are conducting survivor-centred, trauma-informed research to understand survivors’ experiences of legal and justice systems. The research is grounded in safety, dignity and agency. Survivors are not simply sources of information. They hold expertise in their own lives, and their choices and boundaries must be respected throughout the process.

 
But listening is only the beginning.

In the next phases, we aim to translate survivors’ lived experiences into evidence that can inform legal reform and strengthen institutional practice, particularly within the police, prosecution and judiciary.

Survivor-centred justice requires us to look beyond individual incidents of violence and recognise the dynamics of power and control, as well as the structural conditions that constrain survivors’ choices. It also requires justice institutions to play an active role in making systems safer, more responsive and more just.

Our Highlight

The Nitivajra Institute, in collaboration with UN Women and SHero Thailand, hosted the project “Violence Through Different Lenses: Understanding Violence in the Justice System,” featuring the activity “Unpacking Violence Against Women: Decoding Violence Towards Gender Justice.”

ยกระดับกระบวนการยุติธรรมและสร้างความเข้าใจคดีความรุนแรงต่อผู้หญิง โดยมี นายสัญจัย จันทร์ผ่อง ผู้ตรวจการอัยการ เป็นประธานเปิดงาน เพื่อมุ่งเน้นการคุ้มครองผู้เสียหายจากการถูกกระทำซ้ำ ป้องกันอาชญากรรม และผลักดันความยุติธรรมทางเพศอย่างเป็นรูปธรรม
