SHero’s Support Group for Young Human Rights Defenders on Sunday, December 3, 2017, at Picture Book Guest House, Mae Sot District, Tak Province

‘Empowered Women Empower Women. Empowered Youth Empower Community.’

To engage and empower young women leaders in Mae Sot border, SHero conducted ‘SHero Group Support: for young human rights defender fighting Violence against Women’ on 3 December 2017. With the support from Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) U.S. Embassy, YOUnified by YSEALI, we gathered young women from Police Department, Social Development and Human Security Office, INGO, NGO and Gender-Based Violence Coordination Group consisted of Migrant-led Community Based Organization, to be a part of SHero support group. The workshop is designed to offer participants a safe space to share their stories, challenges and obstacles as young women who save others’ lives, prevent and protect victims of violence. The sessions include mental support, sharing and discussion, while SHero has shared the stories of Domestic Violence survivor whom become Violence advocate today.

The agenda was:
i) Getting to know each other/ talk about their challenges being young people dealing with violence cases
ii) SHero founder shares her story and experience in assisting violence victims in Mae Sot area and lists best practices she has learnt
iii) Open for discussion/ separate into two groups to design solutions and referral system for violence case assistance in all aspect i.e. health, emotional and legal assistance.
iv) Fill in the Code of Conduct for the collaboration of empowered young women in Mae Sot area who has been fighting against Violence in her community.

– Dinner together –
The event has been so powerful. And, as expected outcome, the young women empowerment network has created. The participant are willing to support each other and enable to come up with a case referral system which they are commit to follow together.

The SHero’s Code of Conduct for young human rights defenders fighting Violence Against Women in Mae Sot is established. Now, we are looking forward to a better change in Mae Sot community.
We empower other SHeroes to create change in their own community. SHero has always believe that if there are the network of anti-violence youth in every community every part of Thailand, we can eliminate domestic violence and de-normalize violence culture in Thailand-together.
